This is an unnecessary provocation, is irrelevant, immaterial, has no standing, and will create animosity between Islamabad and Washington.
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-CA 46th District, was one of the biggest proponents of the Talibs, and the Internet is littered with him posing with the Talibs in a Shalwar Kameez. His ill intentions have convened a meeting of the Oversight and Investigations sub-committee of the House Foreign Relations Committee at 2200 Rayburn House Office Buildingat the U.S. capitol on Wednesday February 8, 2012. Amid a situation wherein the allies’ mutual relationship seems to be deteriorating, this meeting will surely not help the dialogue. The misguided Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher who recently co-authored an article with Congressman Louie Gohmert expressing support for an independent Balochistan, will chair the hearing.
“Perhaps we should even consider support for a Balochistan carved out of Pakistan.”
Those who will present their papers before the subcommittee include Lt. Colonel (Retd) Ralph Peters, who has no standing anywhere, but is supported by a motley crowd of Indians, terrorists, and some confused folks who misunderstand the intentions of Mr. Peters. The sometimes freindly, sometimes antagonistic, but always animated Georgetown University Asst. Professor C. Christine Fair will be present in Washington. The Pakistani director of Human Rights Watch, Ali Dayan Hasan has also been invited and will present numbers on human rights abuses. The inclusions of Mr. Peters is inflammatory and provocative and his presence on the Senate floor will be seen in Pakistan as proof of America’s bad intentions in Pakistan. Representative Rohrabacher used to be a friedn of Paksitan–till be met the Bharati lobby.

Ralph Peters is despised in Pakistan. His name is dirt. His despicable map flaunted a few years ago is etched in the minds of the Pakistani Army. Ralph Peters of “creating-the-map-of-independent-Balochistan” fame, who managed to get his article published in a Defense journal– continues to write. It seems like Mr. Peters is till living in the 80s, and can see Iran and Afghanistan through the eyes of an old decrepit Cold War protagonist. Mr. Peters will soon be appearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee called in to discuss Balochsitan.
Mr. Ralph Peters represents the right wing of the American mosaic. He is a nut, with a deep religious tint. His articles have long predicted a Sino-Pakistan nexus, versus an Iranian-Indian alliance in a post-NATO Afghanistan. Mr. Peters may or may not be right–but current international relations show no rapprochement between Tehran and Delhi–not when Bharat is sitting in Israel’s lap.
If Delhi can dump Israel, it can work with Tehran. Otherwise, why would Israel cooperate with Iran via India. The Peters map of an independent Balochistan, the rhetoric on Pakistan’s Nuclear assets, the drone strikes, and the Raymond Davis Affair are the main reasons why the US has been unable to solidify its foreign policy objectives in West Asia. As a result it faces an ignominious defeat, an early withdrawal, and a shut out from the riches of the Central Asian States. The faltering US policy in Pakistan will make it more difficult for Washington to engage in a long term presence in the Hindu Kush.
As the US tries to calm things down, a new source of tension is emerging in the relationship, one in which Mr. Ralph Peters will be a prominent feature. The US Senate has called a meeting to discuss Balochistan. Some very unsavory characters will be called to the meeting and some very inflammatory comments will be made during an election year in both countries. The more than 80 TV channels in Pakistan will inflame this rudimentary Senate meting beyond all proportions. The Bharati media will pour oil on the fire. It will be hard for Washington to contain the backlash. It would be wise for Washington to postpone or cancel the meeting Balochistan. Nothing good will come out of it. If the US has any concerns, Washington to take them up in private meetings with the Baloch and with Islamabad.
Afghanistan Pakistan union map-the only way to bring peace to West Asia. This is the vision of Pakistan. Ralph Peters and others are scared of the inevitable union of Pakistan and Afghanistan
